Real Airbus 320 - Billund/EKBI - CAT3 - Automatic Landing (2K)
51:40 how in the world can such a massive 777 behave like on rudder input?
Wow, what a landing in SFO. You make it look easy! Beautiful approach, too
Is there a way to completely disable the fbw trim system?
After a lot of time in the 747 it is strange to trim that way in the 777, specially if you get slow on approach. The airplane wants to put the nose down, you have to pull to maintain the glide and put a lot of power into it. Funny aircraft. Is the trim system the same in the 787?
Yep same in the 787. Hence speed control is so important here.
@Blackbox711 I heard that some airlines write in their SOP that AT has to be on during landing. What are your thoughts about this and what does your airline say?
you can’t delete an NDB frequency in the 777 ;)
That I found out today 😁
That was a great evening out of EKCH and full coverage into EDDL
It really was 👍🏼
HI BB . I wonder how does the Thrustmastrt yoke feel comparing to the real one ? Out of 10 ?
Great review for On the rocks tonight. Thanks
Hi BB. As a 29 year 737 pilot and ex military pilot, can you confirm the same principles hold for manual flying in the 777 as they would in the 737. That is, one sets the attitude and then trims to remove all control column forces. Without the FBW indication on the speed tape in the real aircraft, how do you know what speed you are trimming for ? I understand that the FBW system works differently under the hood, but isn't it for all practical intents and purposes the same as the 737 for manual flight ?
Hi. Taking your example: lets say you are flying manual and trimmed nicely for 250 kts, flying at 3 degree pitch. Then you want to climb at a pitch of 6 degrees. You would pull on the yoke and put in a 6 degree pitch value and manually (or autothrust) add thrust to maintain the 250 kts. Then no pitch trim input would be needed as the FBW would do its thing to maintain the pitch. The principle of the FBW system is mainly to help stabilize the aircraft and to keep it within its flight envelope. Boeing has a slightly different design compared to Airbus where the automatic pitch trim does not include speed changes in manual flight. Airbus on the other hand does this too.
@@Blackbox711 Ok so you’re saying that if I did the same thing in the 737 I would have to re-trim as I changed from 3 to 6 degrees whereas in the 777 that’s not required.
@@speedbird8326 a pitch increase changes several aerodynamic factors. The 777 adusts those in manual flight apart from a speed change trim requirement. In a 737 there will be a trim requirement already for the thrust increase. So yes, in manual flight the 737 will need more trimming.
@@Blackbox711 Ok thanks for the explanation.
Thank you! What a great presentation.
Thank you very much
This needs to be shown in schools!
In manual flight with autothrust on (is this allowed on the 777?) is the trim speed reference setting coupled with the speed setting for the autothrust?
Hi. No it isn’t. That is completely seperate and takes the target speed value (magenta pointer on the speed scale).
And yes, it is allowed to fly with autothrust off
Thank you for the clear explaination Captain 👍
Thank you Mark 🧑✈️✈️
Super informative Capt. thanks so much for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you for watching and your kind comment
What does one have to do when the actual speed deviates from the ref speed? Use the trim controls until they match again?
The FBW speed trim reference should be put to the speed you want to fly. So if the speed deviated from reference speed and you want to return to it then don’t change the trim.
Vielen Dank für das informative Video um das Fbw und die damit verbundene Trimmung zu verstehen und richtig anzuwenden um das Flugzeug auch manuell korrekt zu fliegen
Vielen Dank für das nette Feedback ✈️🙏
Thanks for this very informative. Wrapping my head around boeing fly by wire is new for me. I’m trying to set up a force feedback profile, with that in mind would it be accurate to say that when the aircraft is AT trim ref speed the control forces are very minimal? If wanting to accelerate, pushing forward on the yoke will have more force until reaching the new desired speed while moving trim simultaneously. (Making it essentially feel like a conventional aircraft being “in trim”)
Hey. Thank you! With a force feedback yoke it should be as you wrote, there should be no control forces when the actual airspeed is at the indicated trim reference speed. The challenge comes with airspeed changes. An instructor will tell you to correct first with yoke input and then trim away the pressure. However here as you wrote you would do this in tandem just like in an conventional aircraft. The more you practice the more intuitive it becomes. Btw. I had to order the FF Brunner after watching you fly with it. Happy Landings ✈️
@@Blackbox711 thank you that helps! Oh wow thats awesome I cant wait for you to get it so you can make even better profiles! lol the software takes a minute to get used too, and its not perfect, however once you go FFB there is simply no going back. Cant wait to hear what you think about it!
On the side note, if I recall correctly, the trim tab will not be moved by the FBW system unless the yoke is neutral in the pitch axis.
Could very well be. It is not described in much detail on how and when the FBW system uses elevators and stabilizer position. If you find a good reference I would love to hear where I can find that.
There are quite a few checks to prevent the FBW from flying the airplane with the tail plane. Can’t remember how Boeing did it, but checking the column position OR checking the rate of elevator deflection can both rule out the transient motion.
It’s good to see someone utilizing this feature in the PMDG 777, for years I’ve been the only one on YT I’ve seen use this feature. ruclips.net/video/Jgmob3f5Bao/видео.html
Wtf is that shaking while moving the trim on ground?
I saw that too and can only imagine low animation quality
This is probably the perfect first video to look at as a new 777 pilot, thank you!
Thank you for watching
captain should you do de icing and anti ice with fluid type 4 at the gate even when the temp is for example 10 degrees celsius with no rain or only in freezing conditions which is below 3 degrees celsius and also when exactly do you turn on anti ice from the overhead panel is it after engine start and when to turn off anti ice as well ?? please let me know thanks
Deicing/Antiicing with fluids is only done when you have frost or snow on the aircraft. The engine anti ice is used whenever temperature is below +10 degrees Celsius and visible moisture like fog/clouds or contamination on taxiways. ruclips.net/video/llFXWfjju84/видео.htmlsi=_5W0e4xFHE3zKftn
@@Blackbox711 thanks captain
My god, this was a real nightmare flight with engine failure, bird strike and a broken landing gear 😱("Hold my beer, I will land that airplane"). My Wife just frowned when she went by, me watching the landing with the cracked window 🤣
😂 all for entertainment purposes. Will be interesting to try in the future with a Shared Cockpit Setup.
@@Blackbox711 Okay I'll be passenger then 🤣
I can't wait...It's up for purchase... PMDG for MSFS PMDG 777-300ER for Microsoft Flight Simulator Was: $325,000,000.00 Now: $324,999,999.99
Hopefully the price will come down 😜
Great news on the pitch down issue being resolved BB ! Thanks for lowering the TTS volume.
Thank you 🙏
Would you say fly factor is better than pmdg?
Problem is that the FF777 V2 is far from finished. But if it is developed fully then I see it being overall a great competitor to the PMDG 777
@@Blackbox711 thanks I mean I just think the 777 from pmdg is missing some tweaks there and there. I also think they should add some cool visuals like FF does and also I think msfs 2024 will provide overall better flight physics to aircraft cause one engine operations on a heavy plane seems underwhelmingly bad
@@RAVIOLIdS Big expectations are on MSFS2024 regarding aerodynamic simulation. I really hope that they will deliver.
@@Blackbox711 me too captain thanks for you content btw I love it and its super informative
Good to hear that the bug has been identified and removed. BTW, thanks for the comlex presentation of the airplane on the channel. (:
Thank you for watching. The huge amount of interest and questions was a handful to handle. Hopefully most questions were answered.
Nice stream, BB. Is it normal for the aircraft to veer to the live engine after the other engine fails (the PMDG Eng Fail)? I thought it should be veering to the dead engine side, or am I wrong?
the 777 has automatic rudder trim during engine failure
Normally the aircraft would yaw towards the dead engine. There is indeed a Thrust Asymmetry Compensation. On top of that my initial rudder input may have been too strong.
Engine Failure During a Reduce Thrust (ATM) Takeoff ...full rated takeoff thrust by manually advancing the thrust lever while still on the runway, or by pushing the TO/GA switch while airborne. This is because the takeoff speeds consider VMCG and VMCA at the full rated takeoff thrust... (from Boeing 777 FCTM) (Personally I don't think it would be any different in the 787 due to regulatory reasons and stuff... and VMCA and VMCG would have to be met before V1 even for Derate + ATM takeoffs)
Although the ATM takeoff thrust setting is not considered a takeoff operating limit, the selected fixed derate is still considered a takeoff operating limit. This is because takeoff speeds consider VMCG and VMCA only at the fixed derate level of thrust. If an engine failure occurs during takeoff, any thrust increase beyond the fixed derate limit could result in loss of directional control and should not be accomplished unless in the opinion of the captain, terrain clearance cannot be assured. If an engine failure occurs during takeoff when using both the reduced thrust (ATM) and fixed derate methods, Boeing recommends that the thrust levers not be advanced. This is because the fixed derate limit is not displayed on engine or flight instruments.
I don’t own a 777 FCOM but a 787 one. So if the 777 allows for thrust increase in Derate + ATM takeoffs, then it is different to the 787 procedure. Up to now I only fly the 787. And my FCOM is clear on this as you can see.
@@Blackbox711 wow..! Pretty different philosophies then! Thanks for the input about the 787 on this!
@@MurphyJungKRI appreciate your feedback. Good to know the 777 isn’t as restrictive regarding thrust increase ✈️
You can use the 'fixed config' in the Aircraft menu for the "universal setup"! Type in the tail-no of the airframe whose config you want to use.
Thank you 🙏
Do you have airport addons?
Yes, many
I can’t quite seem to figure out your nationality! Your accent sounds quite South African but sometimes it sounds so British aswell, a bit similar to Lando Norris’ accent. 😅 I am actually German. But lived in England for 5 years.
@@Blackbox711 Ah I see, I was well off then 😂
Hey! It's flight factor, not PMDG.
Nope, it’s PMDG. Flight Factor, if I am not mistaken, is an add-on for X-Plane, meanwhile PMDG is for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.
@@zaviationn Just look that 'X-system' on the top left corner.

You can do the “universal setup” by copying the text in the .ini file over to the other airframes, which you can find in the packages folder of the PMDG 777-300ER.
Thank you very much 😎✈️
@Blackbox711 no problem, just found out that you can use the fixed config option in the aircraft equipment page to automate this process :)
Thats it, I am returning to MSFS. I flew a lot the B747 in P3d, but there are so many problems. Old designations for runways, missing ILS for runways, and I dont want to pay 35 Bucks for an airport always. The 744 will always be my favorite jet but the overall MSFS package is just better.
Really great to see that the fbw pitch issue seems to have been addressed. Really quick response on that! Plane still seems stiff and twitchy though. Looks pretty but doesn't fly naturally.
That is unfortunately more in the responsibility of MSFS/Asobo. Hopefully MSFS2024 will improve this.
@@Blackbox711 yes fingers crossed. Im sure aircraft developers are hoping for physics improvements more than we are. less work arounds
i am sorry but stupid sub announcement made me really mad.
I turned down the volume of those announcements after a few minutes into the stream.
This stream reminded me of why this is my favorite sim content channel. Thanks BB for teaching us so much and actually calling out things that don't work as they should!
Thank you very much!
Hope they will fix the sound prior to its release day
I doubt it
Hi, my question is; IF ANYONE CAN TELL ME; Is it existing any FCOM for P3D - PMDG 747-400? If YES, then how can I have it? What is the difference between, PMDG 747 BASE & EXPANTION PACKAGE?
The way this thing flies, omg I'm a huge fan of Just Planes channel, I literally scan and overanalyze all the pilots inputs and the fact that BB is actually doing the same inputs and the airplane is really stable! Just a pleasure!
PMDG should really take some notes from FBW's or FlightFactor's sound department.
Safe travels have a good flight 🛫
Pmdg 777 p3d version sounds solid compared to the msfs version kinda sad
Why are you sad? It will get updates and fixes for months after initial release like the 737 did.
@@AtomSmash3r sounds like a toyota prius
Good news. The issue regarding the pitch down tendencies on final approach were identified and are being fixed.
Yay, let's hope they can sneak the fix in by launch day.
2:47:41 Isn't the pitch up/down moment simply a response to adding/decreasing thrust? Maybe the reaction is overpowered because the engines are spooling up/down too rapidly?
And yet again another broken FBW logic! Was broken in P3D all the time, as 777-rated Pilots repeatedly testified over an extensive time period on the PMDG Forum. Hard to believe that they ever had a chance to fly a Level-D Fullflight Simulator, as they claim in their introduction manual… And very odd that this ( major ) issue has been identified last minute and only by a youtubers feedback… What‘s going on during beta-testing? BTW: you know that the FBW-Speedbug is not implemented in the real Aircraft? It‘s a fictional indication.
@@ClouDAction. The FBW system is based on C*U. That means there is something called "Speed Stability". When the current Airspeed equals the Speed Trim setting (the blue FBW indication on the PFD) the aircraft maintains the pitch automatically, even in manual flight. The pitch will only change when the airspeed differs from the set Speed Trim setting. Any other changes like Flaps, Gear, Speedbrakes and even Thrust will not change the pitch. That is the design of the B777 Fly-By-Wire system and makes it so stable to fly.
Also Mr.Kok from PMDG wrote me a message saying the developers have found the bug causing this pitch down and are fixing it asap.
hey bro😅❤
